about me

Riley Mellis
they/them

Hi! I'm Riley, I'm a 26 year old junior audio engineer based in Melbourne.

Growing up I always had a passion for film & TV. Some of my best childhood memories are from going to the cinema, and sharing those moments with friends/family.

In 2022 I decided to follow my heart and study film at TAFE. I completed a Certificate III, IV & 6 months of Diploma in Screen and Media at Hunter St TAFE in Newcastle. I'd always had a keen interest in sound design, however it was at TAFE that I fully cultivated that passion. That was when I knew that sound was what I wanted to pursue.

At the beginning of 2024 I applied for a traineeship in operations at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. I was offered the role and have now completed my 12 months as a trainee. I learnt valuable skills in radio broadcasting and audio post production, working under senior audio engineers with Radio National.

I spent time in TV studios, observing the operations of broadcast TV and learning under seniors in audio, vision and lighting. The last part of my traineeship was with tv post production, learning high-volume asset management and basic editing techniques.

I'm now employed as a casual audio engineer with Radio National at the ABC. However I am on the lookout for a more permanent role moving into the future of my career, and hope to move into the direction of my goals as a sound designer.

Please check out my work, and feel free to get in touch at any time!
